“I was using the slogan ‘gay is good’ without even realising the history, it was only when I spoke to Fred Sargeant, a guy who was actually at the Stonewall riots, and he told me that was a slogan the original Gay Liberation Front used in the sixties that I realised, yes this good, this is where we have to be,” so says Kurtis Tripp, the President of a new US gay rights organisation “The New Gay Liberation Front” (NGLF).
Formally launching today, the new exclusively homosexual-focused organisation boasts a slick new website, a clear sense of what it is and a promise of frenetic activity and advocacy in advance of its Sunday 19th September online launch event. NGLF board member John Robinson explains he drew on a 22-year history in non-profit homeless charity work and advocacy (including setting up his own homeless non-profit organisation) to help structure the body which is in the process of being awarded the US’s equivalent of not for profit/charitable status.
Tripp (previously interviewed by LGB here) is perhaps most well-known for his TikTok videos where he responds to gender ideology activists, who say homosexuality is merely a “genital preference” to be “unlearned”; this organisation continues his work of providing a clear riposte to such arguments. Addressing the point Tripp said, “NGLF maintains that homosexuality is defined as being sexually attracted solely to persons of one’s own sex, and that it isn’t bigotry to maintain exclusive same-sex attraction.”
Outlining a specific concern of the organisation, the board explained that responding to the so-called “cotton ceiling” and “boxer ceiling” material online was a priority. The two “ceilings” are terms for those who advocate for same sex attracted persons to “widen their dating pool” to include persons of the opposite sex. The board explained “NGLF has partnered with the founder of the Boxer Ceiling, a project which documents homophobic abuse from gender identity ideologues who demand that gay men shift the basis of our sexual orientation away from biological sex toward gender identity.”

Speaking about NGLF, academic board member Donovan Cleckley highlighted the vast amount of material in the resources section of its website from a comprehensive fact checking resource called “Gay Truths, Straight Lies” addressing subjects as varied as whether puberty blockers are reversible through to whether sex is a spectrum. Gay rights, culture and history also feature with extensive articles no doubt likely to feature in the fiercely contested online arguments about matters such as the Stonewall Riots. It’s clear that NGLF are not going to shy away from the suggestion that modern gender ideology can fuel homophobia. Speaking on the topic a spokesman for NGLF said, “Homosexual people’s dignity and autonomy are under direct attack by gender identity ideology, radical trans activists and major institutions – and the NGLF is here to fight back.”
The remaining two NGLF board members are perhaps the most crucial: veteran campaigner, media expert and journalist Belissa Cohen and radical feminist and lesbian activist Zinetta Hope. Cohen was a member and spokesperson for the LGB Fight Back organisation and a regular guest on influential podcasts such as the Benjamin Boyce show. Cohen is a veteran gay rights activist and has been active in gay politics since the 1980s. She was recently involved in the Valentine’s Day protests across the US outside five gender clinics against the prescription of puberty blockers to youths. Speaking about her involvement in NGLF she said, “The most important thing for me is for kids to hear, we love you just the way you are, you don’t need to change”. Zinetta Hope, like Tripp, is a digital “content creator” for the LGB Alliance USA.

Asked how the group stand in relation to LGB Alliance USA, Tripp explained, “We love LGBA USA and we will always support them, we’re here with a different focus though; exclusively homosexual and focused on a specific mission about protecting single sex spaces and single sex attracted people from abuse and attack”. Citing what he calls, “The new homophobia”, Tripp said, “Unity between lesbians and gay men for gay rights has come again, as it did for the Gay Liberation Front in the aftermath of the Stonewall rebellion of 1969. Conversion therapy, hate crimes, gender identity ideology as a new dominant ideology – all of these harms to our community have necessitated a return to our roots: gay liberation.”
